LinkedIn Hallucinations (Did I Actually Write That?) A True Story …The Risks of AI

Ok, I am not a fan of LinkedIn, I find the format to be non-user friendly and overly costly, and compared to a network like Alignable it seems to lack practical use. I have never experienced AI hallucinations rewriting my resume or work experience/background like I did on LinkedIn.

One day after not being on the site for almost two years due to family illness, I discovered this crazy false information on LinkedIn about my work experience.

On further exploration, I discovered that by clicking on a certain AI feature possibly many months or even years prior, unknown to me, LinkedIn AI rewrote my entire profile resume. AI hallucinations galore.

LinkedIn said I had worked at a bank in South America based upon a jazz contact I had in South America and made up many other untrue things about me that I was forced to rewrite or delete or change. I was horrified by that and wondered how many years it had been like that without my knowledge. Upsetting falsehoods and complete lies all throughout my resume.

I have never worked at a bank or in South America.

Imagine, would you continue to support or respect a platform that did that to you?

Like just in 2024, today, someone I messaged on Instagram in marketing had automated AI responses…. I advise you not to do that if you want to stay in business. After a while the message system could not even comprehend what I was asking it. That’s AI. It kept saying something like “I do not understand,” and it was hilarious as it was pretending to be a person prior. Losing good customers yes?

There has never been an audio transcription I have done in AI as a writer not riddled with AI hearing audio errors, too. AI is a problem still and needs to be regulated and laws need to be made about its use to protect users and our planetary safety. Will AI mimic the self-destructive habits of humans, and what will that ultimately mean when that happens? Nuclear meltdowns?

I had considered a Canadian Vancouver AI website on which I had designed a complex site in 2 hours, but the monetization was non-existent and the store suggestions would cost me elsewhere, and the store looked disastrously awful anyway. Yes, another disappointment by AI.

Also, AI could destroy that AI business website with unprovoked hallucinations like it had on LinkedIn at any moment. Much too risky. Just one wrong command or suggestion and it invents information. Too unstable legally. You need to protect your customers, too. especially if you use their testimonials. AI is a risk.

What about the company that promised me a free product twice but their AI messed it up and they said they could not just give a free product in any other way? That is a false advertising lawsuit waiting to happen from the wrong person. Do you think I will ever shop there again? I only purchased for the free products and they then refused to give it afterward.

When it did not work at checkout and I asked for the free gifts, this MAJOR women’s clothing company from the UK said it was “impossible,” offering only a 20% discount worth $15 instead of a $120 value for the free products. Now obviously that will upset many people. Isn’t even Madonna being sued for false advertising?

Bad business? Thoughts?

Freedom

After working for a community provincial MSM publication I decided I would never again work for a MSM-related news publication.

Why?

It is too problematic for a freelancer interested in freedoms of the press these days in 2024, especially with a publication that conveniently never writes about the pandemic issues around vaccines, honestly, that is a red flag.

I would suggest to young writers interested in true press freedoms that no matter how many awards a publication receives, to research how the publication gets its funding and where all of it is sourced from. Including any government funding or other corporate or pharma-sponsored or any other community grants or funding.

Ask yourself all the questions.

Read books like 1984, Animal Farm, and A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. Do your research and learn about the horrors of WWII from both a modern-day German and a British perspective. Learn why war is regularly initiated as an act of sociopathy.

Fake Science

Do not accept hearsay blindly no matter what the source is.

Research is crucial. Use non-google search engines and filter and scroll through to about the 10th or 20th pages free of propaganda to find the truth. Education is not always education. It is programming. (Read online about how elites designed education to control their factory workers.)

Re: How does Beehiiv support or how do their claims fare with customers?

The Beehiiv site for users reads on Feb. 1, 2024:

Beehiiv offers complete email, live chat, and phone support. According to customer Beehiiv reviews, their customer service is typically very responsive and helpful compared to some competitors. Smaller companies tend to provide more dedicated support.

I found the above statement to be untrue for me, they told me by phone that they discourage phone help, they usually do not offer it. ( What does it say bolded above?) For me they are hard to reach quickly, and usually the norm is it takes days. Can your business afford to wait days?

I found they do not seem concerned too much about comprehending solving the root cause of tech and especially payment issues, I still do not get paid on my site and they will not test my site to troubleshoot the issue with a test payment or offer help by phone with Google Console.

They will not provide necessary payment test features. It’s an issue because if I test it myself it creates a problem with accounting and the bank. Nor do they help with much in detail and do not even have many basic AI transcripts of their help videos, thereby making specific examples of help for non-tech-oriented people too time-wasting to retrieve for fact-finding or site navigation. Or even to find previously read or Youtubed-watched information again.

Do you have 20 hours to spend watching videos looking for something small that you need now, that you read once 4 months ago?

Too much of a time waster for most small businesses, better for big biz. The instruction stuff and lack of site organization waste hours and goes nowhere when you have to pay tech to monetize the site and for any google policy update adjustments and can’t find any good information in an archive. Not good for busy solopreneurs, may be a better fit for businesses with a staff team.

Conclusion: Too costly for small biz. Wasting of time.

Hidden costs

To edit the Beehiiv site and maintain it properly costs over $90 USD monthly $120 CAD for features that you would assume should be included in their free basic plan.

Conclusion? The site is not that monetizable with no built-in store feature without tech knowledge and their videos go fast and are assumptive about client user computer know-how.

Canadians, a warning about the Beehiiv Boost feature. They expect you to give your SIN number with no secure upload links (that I know of) to unknown USA businesses for use of the revenue Boost feature putting your security potentially at risk.

Why you should not do that?

You do not know those businesses well enough to blindly trust them, and it is too difficult to prosecute others in a foreign country should they scam you and they know that already. Additionally, people hack email servers all the time.

I quoted my Beehiiv web host's header message on my site below from yesterday,

“Google & Yahoo are rolling out new security changes. All beehiiv senders using a custom sending domain will need to add a DMARC policy to their DNS provider by the end of February.”

It is too costly to implement this potential tech setup for true small biz, it is more than just a policy. To me, it looked like a $1500.00-2000.00 ++ tech request given they expect you to pay for too many supports already.

Supposedly Mailchimp does not do that, is that accurate? Hard to say. Mailchimp claims no tech staff is needed for running their websites, and seems to have more features at more cost-effective prices. But it not a blog. Squarespace offers as many words as you feel like writing in their blog feature, plus they have a new online course feature. Great for instructor or coach entrepreneurs.

Becoming an affiliate with Beehiiv requires too many research details and costly time. Maybe a 17-year-old kid has that time to learn their site and wait months for implementation or SEOizing of features but, not me. Not recommended for small business. Costs $120 per month for editable features.

Squarespace costs for a blog and site with membership area: $285-305 yearly with domain cost and am additional 20% off Squarespace website designer discount. Beehiiv, despite their claims is not the cheapest forum for a blog compared to Squarespace, and may not have as much writing space either. However, the plus side to Beehiiv is that is their only specialty, just blogs.

Other Mishaps

Unlike Beehiiv, for small biz you need to research other aspects when choosing a web host.

For example, a certain very well-known-to-certain-music creatives (but an unnamed unethical site) has more responsive help but no phone help and it requires too much time to learn its features. No store supports supportive of specific services or products that do not scroll too much, that are easily marketable. And yes all templates require too much scrolling it seems. No video uploads. Definitely not a good choice for musician-filmmakers or YouTubers like myself. Links are not always preferred in certain video cases for filmmakers.

Then comes up the question of company ethics and competition with US companies against so-called Canadian rivals or perceived threats to the US market, this can be an issue with some companies.

As a Canadian company you need to tread carefully. In other words, your payment system on some websites is designed NEVER to be functional by the US webhost. Call it their way of eliminating foreign competition. Do you have time or energy to sue them for costs?

Getting Burned: A Short Canadian Story

After being barraged and overwhelmed by the too-intense three-year global response to my short film, In the Zone: Rick Kilburn, and inquiring about overseas customer support and international 24-hour contact assistance for my business website, and just so I could sleep without being messaged….just asking this UNNAMED US web host about support for such activities, etc., my site subscription was canceled suddenly. Immediately. Supposedly that was an issue just asking that question about overseas customer service implementation marketing, or even funnel implementation.

So also, be careful what you ask.

That past company only gave me a week to take down my site after asking that question series about overseas help and especially about affordable overseas 24-hour assistance.

So proceed with caution and beware of US companies who will destroy your business and put you at serious financial risk just because they do not like your questions.

I would say not to sign up without talking to innovative creatives who may think outside of the box, as some companies can not handle such challenges with any kind of unfamiliarity, so just do not ask the questions, they cannot cope with it.

You need to discuss a web host’s work, demonstrated service, and policies with other users first before buying. Be suspicious of hidden unmentioned costs always/do not trust them to be ethical until they prove that to you.

“Ethics,” is a dirty Orwellian word in 2024, just like the word now meaning its opposite like a faux pas in Canada: “freedom.” Both words have had no truthful or concise meaning since the 2020 pandemic in Canada.

100% recommended to be cautious and never assume even that established well-known web hosts will be 100% honest or even partially honest. Never assume anyone is ethical ever in a long-distance business or even at a local business.

What NOT to Choose

Did I tell you about the very well-known Nanaimo dealership and automaker who damaged my car during a car detail first promising to fix it, then blamed it on me, and refused to fix it? Causing a value fall of about $2-3000 or more for a damaged back seat with little holes they had created all over it??

How they also still a decade later refuse to recall a head unit issue affecting all 2014 vehicles known by mechanics to fail with 6 year obsolescence just after warranty requiring a $2000-5000 repair? How I refuse to fix it and line their dishonest pockets of greed? How they endanger my safety in the car with their dishonest practices so that I can’t use my car cell phone hands-free in an emergency because of them? (Honestly, would you want to pay $5000 for a recall issue?)

So is this a tell-everyone-about-it matter? It is not about revenge, it is about ethics and what they mean as far as good business practice goes.

Did I tell you that someone in my family had been their national manager of Canada for about 7-8 years and they were still horrifically dishonest, that their Japanese representative had gifted me a doll when I was only like 2 or 3 years old? How they would not apologize half a century later?

Ethics what do they mean in 2024?

So the point is even companies that are well-established harm others intentionally and they do not care if you have followers, seemingly enjoying the sociopathy, the warring game behind it all. Sometimes it is very worth exposing them. Do not be shy, expose them for what they are. Expose them.

Report to their country of origin. Report a complaint to the Better Business Bureau like I am going to do right now, that is a good idea for sure. Ladies if they snowed you especially because you are a woman be extra vigilant in your reporting and telling all your friends especially your most influential and most wealthy friends and especially their brand new customers. Let all the local dealerships or competitors in their industry know what they are doing, too, so that everyone knows that they cannot be locally trusted to be honest.

And be logical, too.

If one dealership of the brand or product is snowing customers likely the whole company can’t be trusted. Ever again. Just because they were ethical once does not mean it will ever be the case long term. Throw naive behaviour right out into the trash and put the offenders in the bin with the lid closed tight.

Did they ever apologize? Or try to correct the issues? 

No.

If you have similar stories get in touch with me, we can consider a class action locally of the company (see photo) for following through with the head unit recall, an issue that endangers millions of customers in emergencies, especially women and female teens who are more at risk of having a safety security issue emergency when in their cars.

It’s a misogynistic insult to all women by not allowing or permitting women to possess that safety in their cars with a car part with 6-7 year obsolescence.

Moral of the story? Trust and go forth cautiously. Period. Get to know the people you do business with well and let them prove themselves with action first to you as a customer or as a business investor before proceeding by establishing relationships for quite some time. Recognize that some of those people will misinterpret everything about you and be assumptive even telling others falsehoods about you due to their own illusions and presumptions.

Understanding 2022-24: War

Human beings make sense and security of the world with presumption, imagination, illusion, and judgements often based upon misinterpretation or hasty assumptions often due to their own insecurities. Once you expect it, while at the same time having no expectations, to not be disappointed, you may or may not achieve a sense of normalcy. Those types of incorrect judgemental assumptive illusory behaviours are what lead to communication breakdown and division between sides and then war.

One last good piece of advice.

If someone warns you about their ethics do not ignore it. People with sociopathic tendencies or personality disorders may even warn you about themselves and the fact that you should not trust them. It’s another red flag. Pay close attention should that ever happen to you.

Stimulus and Response: B.F. Skinner, Research

Who was BF Skinner? He was about the science. The stimulus, the causal action, then the result, the response. To understand how to study and observe what is real science or how to come to a conclusion based upon evidence and scientific facts, learn from Skinner.

Remember that when others, (even when it’s many or larger numbers of people), who are in the know about someone who is acting unethically (or an actual unethical situation) they are often frightened of speaking about it, or are often forgetful due to their trauma response to share it with you due to aspects of denial.

Other times an individual or group can just plainly be ignorant of the facts, the history, or even the hard facts behind actual science or some other type of established practice. For example, like an English graduate, an arts journalist writing a music review with a knowledge of culture but with zero knowledge about music, is that even fair, do you call it music expertise, honestly is that even logical or fair? Most music critics are English grads. It is why you the musician should never take most music or arts reviews seriously.

Do not accept any information blindly as truth from any source. Check the source’s track record, expertise, and how their actions match their words and the same with the facts. Use more non-mainstream search engines to do your research. Check those facts with many sources at least 8-10.

The answer? Be like a real journalist. Ask questions. And yes, do your research.
