I had a blast speaking at the Women’s Spirit Festival! Due to being not so great at glitchy techie stuff on Facebook, it was a learning curve, but I got through it and want to share my talks at the Women’s Spirit Festival here with you in case you want to join me.

I was wanting to demo the two chord centering process, but the next thing I knew I was writing a song for an audience, and it just made sense to go with the moment and let it unfold.

Often many musicians refer to "creating space." What that really means in my interpretation of it, is letting the moments unfold, that is the true part of the improvisatory process, so it was fun to let it take place as it did.

To me the true masters of the moment were the perfect performances by the late sitar genius, Ravi Shankar, and by flamenco master Paco de Lucia, and by inspirational performances of Tibetan or Gregorian chanting by monks, or for me, the improvisatory works that are high on the spiritual by Lenny Breau, Sonny Greenwich, John or Alice Coltrane, and Miles Davis, or Bill Evans. Modern artists and faves for me like François Houle or Benoit Delbecq have also created very centering and profound works as has the more ecstatic work by Franklin Kiermyer with Tibetan Monks and his separate individual ensembles.

Getting yourself into a creative space with one sound, or two, or three chords, or repetitive melody, or drones, is absolutely wonderful. I hope that everyone can try centering in this way with sound! I may post a centering drone exercise or two (or three!) for writing music for centering that way with the same creative processes and some surprises in my next video in my Facebook group now that I am experimenting with Live on Facebook thanks to the incredible Elizabeth Ocean and Women's Spirit Festival 2024!
